About A.B. in Ecology: Education & Outreach
Science education and outreach teaches individuals how to evaluate complex environmental issues, using critical thinking and decision-making skills. In addition to teaching these skills, environmental educators share available information and evidence with the public in an accessible way to deepen the understanding of scientific issues. These educational activities can occur in K-12 classrooms, local nature centers, community- or citizen-science programs, and/or through governmental organizations, like the EPA’s Office of Environmental Education.
The coursework associated with an AB degree in Ecology is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the science behind environmental and ecological issues. Beyond this course-related content knowledge, many of these courses in the Odum School of Ecology provide students the opportunity to develop skills needed to educate others on ecology-related issues. Additional coursework through a Minor or Certificate (see list below) can serve to further develop education-related and leadership skills.
