The University of Georgia Odum School of Ecology awarded degrees to forty-nine students on Friday, May 4, at commencement exercises in Athens.
Receiving doctoral degrees were Ashton Griffin, Linsey Haram, Jeremy Sullivan and Chao Song, who were recognized at the UGA Graduate School’s commencement ceremony on Friday morning. Master’s degrees in conservation ecology and sustainable development were awarded to Darixa Hernandez, Destiny Loyd, and Lance Paden. Kathryn Mascovich received a master’s degree in ecology.
Undergraduates were honored at the spring/summer Odum School convocation ceremony attended by family and friends on Friday afternoon. Thirty-two students received bachelor of science degrees in ecology and nine received bachelor of arts degrees in ecology, making this the largest undergraduate class in the school’s history. In addition, nine graduated with Honors and twenty-one with distinction, and many received dual degrees, minors and/or certificates.
“We are very grateful and thankful to our students,” said Odum School Dean John Gittleman in his convocation address. “They have worked incredibly hard and have already shown that they will put this planet right in important ways.”
Students Hayley Schroeder and Maggie Clark, representing the B.S. and A.B. programs, respectively, also spoke. The ceremony concluded with a welcome to the community of Odum School alumni from Allison Walters, development and alumni relations coordinator.
