While most of the originally scheduled events have been cancelled or postponed, others have been adapted to take place online, and several new events have been added.
Most notably, the UGA Earth (Art) Day Challenge, open to the University and Athens community, to create an online exhibition of creative works expressing how participants are connecting with and appreciating the earth, people, or other living creatures during this time of uncertainty, and how this can inspire an even better future. The deadline for entry is April 19, and selected submissions will be displayed in a virtual gallery during Earth Week. See sustainability.uga.edu/earth-day-art for details and to enter.
Other events include:
- The (Re)Sourceful Collective, a project of the Office of Sustainability, will share information and tips via Instagram and Facebook during the month of April on topics including self care and public health, victory gardening, and reclamation and reuse.
- The Georgia Museum of Art is sharing an online version of the exhibition “Altered Landscapes: Photography in the Anthropocene,” featuring works that explore humanity’s undeniable impact on the natural landscape.
Earth Week events still happening, now in a virtual format, include:
- Yoga Under the Stars at 8 p.m. on April 21 via Facebook Live.
- The Earth Day Fair highlighting campus and community organizations on April 22 Facebook and Instagram.
- Virtual campus tree walk on Friday April 24, via Facebook and Instagram.
- Sustainable UGA Spring Semester in Review, featuring an online gallery of selected works from the UGA Earth (Art) Day Challenge and a series of 60-second videos to be posted on the Office of Sustainability website on April 29.
