REQUIREMENTS

Students are required to take 15-19 credit hours (see details below) and must earn at least a “C” in all program coursework to earn the Certificate in Ecological Restoration and Nature-based Engineering. The certificate will consist of the following components: 

REQUIRED COURSES (9-11 hours)

  • A ‘Foundations’ Course (3 hours)
    • ECOL(ENVE) 3330, Foundations of Ecological Restoration and Nature-Based Engineering (3 hours)
  • An ‘Extension’ Course, which will vary based on the student’s major (3–4 hours)

GUIDELINES

APPLICATION

Fill out the application form by pressing the ‘Apply’ button below. Students must be in good standing with the university at the time of applying. Students will be notified by email when they have been accepted into the program. Once accepted, students must add the Undergraduate Certificate in Ecological Restoration and Naturebased Engineering to their active curricula program via the MyPrograms option in Athena.

ADVISING APPOINTMENTS

Students are encouraged to meet with the Certificate Director and/or the Ecology Undergraduate Advisor after an application has been approved to plan a program of study, and then periodically afterward as needed.

MAKING REGULAR PROGRESS

Regular progress is expected to remain in the program.

SUBSTITUTIONS

Students can petition for substitutions to requirements for the certificate by emailing the Certificate Director a written statement that explains the rationale for the request. A syllabus, which includes a topical outline, for the substituted course must be included in the email. After receiving the necessary information, the Certificate Director, in consultation with the Advisory Board, will review the petition and let the student know the results.

APPLYING FOR GRADUATION

When you Apply to Graduate (during your last semester at UGA)—you must apply to graduate with the Ecological Restoration and Nature-Based Engineering Certificate in order for the Certificate to be listed on your final transcript.

COMPLETION OF EXIT QUESTIONNAIRE

An exit questionnaire will be issued to graduating certificate students to collect the following information: student major, certificate courses taken, grades earned, attainment of learning outcomes.
