Zack spent a portion of his summer on Skidaway Island and conducted an experiment in oyster ecology in collaboration with Dr. Byers. The study attempted to observe and document the effects of the presence of bonnet head sharks on oyster survival rates. The study examined the interaction of various oyster predators and how these interactions influenced oyster mortality. The experiment included oysters, mud crabs (primary predator), blue crabs (secondary predator), and bonnet head sharks (tertiary predator). This study brought us one step closer to better understanding the system interactions that occur in oyster reefs, an integral aspect of marine and intertidal ecology.
